Everyone has some vague idea of what a book club is. Whether that be positive or negative, what's not to like about spending an evening with friends drinking wine and eating snacks? Book clubs can be as fun, or serious, or quirky as you want them to be. I'd say ours is a mix of all three!
If you're still not convinced, maybe these 10 reasons will:
1. You have meaningful discussions with women that you may not otherwise have.
Many books on our list discuss or relate to hot topics in today's society. There aren't many times or places where women feel completely comfortable with touching on certain subjects. Books give us the perfect opportunity to share our opinions in a respectful way.
Whether it's good, bad or controversial, sometimes you finish a book and immediately need to discuss it with someone else. Having topics from books to talk about with close friends also takes friendships to a different level. You can connect and grow on a deeper level.
5. Reading deadlines.
I don't know about you, but most books I'd buy would take several months to finish. If I finished at all. This gal needs a deadline! I might procrastinate, but I will finish before our book discussion!
Throughout our lives, we typically attach ourselves to something to give us a sense of belonging. Whether that be a class, sports team, drama club, sorority or volunteer group, we search for a sense of community. Once I graduated from college, I found that there were not as many opportunities as high school or college. I love having a sense of belonging and continued education in this book club.
8. You accomplish a goal.
I don't know about you, but it feels DAMN GOOD to successfully complete something. Especially when it is something for myself.
9. Your dogs need a social life, too!
In our group, we're obsessed with doggos. We take this opportunity to bring our pups to hang out with each other. Because dogs need friends, too!
10. "Me" time in a fast paced world.
Meeting to socialize and discuss the book of the month is just one part of being in a book club. Slowing down your busy schedule to find time to read is making time for yourself, too. Escape reality for awhile and engross yourself in another world.
BONUS! Don't just take it from me, hear it from someone else.
"Reading Between the Wines is the highlight of my month! It is a great way to catch up with friends, eat amazing food, sip wine and chat! It has also got me reading regularly again and trying new authors. If you're looking for a fun, social, educational hobby - this is it!" Lindy, book club member
